Ensa participated in the Nuclear Industry China held in Beijing

Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E participated in the Nuclear Industry China held recently in Beijing along with other Spanish nuclear companies, coordinated by the Spanish Nuclear Industry Forum.

The participation in the NIC fair has been an opportunity to enhance Ensa products and establish and strengthen contacts with other companies in the Chinese nuclear sector.

The Cantabrian company attended the fair with the Spanish Nuclear Group for Cooperation ;  a consortium created for the commercial promotion of products and services in the Chinese nuclear market.

Ensa successfully completed the first welds of the PS4 ITER project

Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E   successfully completed the first welds of a series of components of the ITER that are currently being manufactured.

All of this has been possible thanks to the preparation work developed by the welding team. Such welds have been designed and developed in the CTA , as well as the tests  and the qualifications carried out to the personnel who will work on the final components.

The high qualification and experience of all the manufacturing personnel have been reflected in the quality of their welds that have shown excellent results in the non-destructive testing phase, by achieving  «0» defects and in a project of high technological difficulty.

Security, Technology and Good Practices; pillars on which Ensa’s management relies

The Cantabrian company celebrated its 10th Improvement Day, focused on the need to remain at the technological forefront.

Security, Technology and Good Practices were the concepts on which the president of Equipos Nucleares SA, SME focused his intervention which he also identified the tool used in the company to develop these concepts: the Culture of Improvement based on the Annual Plans the company manage.

As he recalled, Ensa was «a pioneer» adopting Security, Technology and Good Practices as the basis of its management; three «master lines» that the sector «has set as immediate and urgent objectives to implement as a way for the sustainability of the company».

González-Mesones was optimistic and hopeful about the new year to come. «The situation of the sector is complicated and increasingly demanding but the way we have to succeed is to do things better than the rest and with better technology.»

Project Recognition

During the event, the works carried out in the categories «Technological Improvements» and «Zero Accident Objective» were recognized. In the first, the prize was awarded to a Robotics project related to the automation of the measurement of diameters of holes and the burnishing in a tube plate. The first improves reliability, allows the calculation of measurements in real time and guarantees 100% inspection and the second one, guarantees 100% processing, as well as process control and tool wear.

Within the recognition «Objective Zero Accidents», in Category I: Best idea to prevent labor risks, the prize was awarded to a work to improve the environmental conditions inside the steam generators and to reduce the thermal stress that the personnel who perform these works have to endure.

Ensa successfully carried out the hydraulic tests of the heat exchangers of the Jules Horowitz reactor

Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E  successfully carried out the hydrostatic tests of three heat exchangers of the RJH reactor. These heat exchangers will be part of the primary circuit of the RJH that is built in the CEA premises in Cadarache .

The objectives for the RJH reactor are: the irradiation of materials and fuels used in current and future nuclear reactors, to guarantee the safety of these reactors and the production of radioisotopes for medical purposes. The RJH reactor will replace the Osiris reactor .

Conference «Nanomaterials: Challenges and Opportunities for Industry», organized by the CTC Technology Center

The president of Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E and of the Executive Committee of the CTC Technology Center opened the conference «Nanomaterials: Challenges and Opportunities for Industry», organized by the CTC.

The meeting, part of the KrEaTive Habitat project, was a great opportunity to publicize the investment opportunities in R + D + i related to this field that are contemplated in the EUROSTARS Program. Different initiatives and projects that companies and entities are carrying out in the technology of nanomaterials were exposed.

The day brought together almost a hundred representatives of the entire value chain of nanomaterials from companies, universities, research centers and different agents in the sector.

Ensa-GEH have successfully launched the second control bar cutting campaign at the Cofrentes Plant

Ensa has successfully set in motion the second cutting campaign of the first control rods in the Cofrentes NPP in Valencia.

In this way, both the second package of limiters and the first quivers of Vs have been obtained, which reduce the volume occupied by the bars.

The first campaign began on spring 2017 with the placing of the equipment and the first cuts with control rods. This cutting technique, designed and developed by Ensa in collaboration with GEH, is pioneer in Spain and is able to reduce the volume occupied by the control bars in the fuel pools and segregate the parts of medium or low activity.

Ensa successfully completed the final tests of the Long Pendulum Fuel Management Tool

Ensa has successfully completed the final acceptance tests of the long pendulum fuel management tool which consisted of: dry functional checks, load testing and functional tests in the pool.

Once these tests have been successfully passed, they will be sent to the nuclear power plant of Almaraz in Cáceres where the Cantabrian Company will oversee the assembly and final tests in the pool, where the used fuel is storage.

Ensa develops a heating system for annular areas of union by welding in large pieces

The Cantabrian Company received a grant from the INNPULSA Program – INNOVA HELP year 2014.

Welding and Thermal Treatments department of Ensa has developed a heating system for annular areas of union by welding in large parts controlled, safe, standardized and easy to adapt to different configurations .

This project has been launched through one of the subsidies framed within the line of aid: INNPULSA Program – INNOVA AIDs 2014, managed by the department of General Directorate of Innovation, Technological Development and Industrial Entrepreneurship, within the Ministry of Innovation, Industry, Tourism and Trade of the Government of Cantabria, selected for co-financing within the Operational Program FEDER of Cantabria 2014 -2020.

The project aims to increase the safety and procedure of the current process by improving the quality of the product and trying to cut down its times.

Ensa’s CTA designs and manufactures a testing ground for the characterization of torque tools and nut-bolt friction coefficients

The laboratory of metrology of the Advanced Technology Centre of Ensa has designed and manufactured a torque test bed that allows the analysis of torque electric tools with all types of metrics and bolt lengths. It is also valid to determine the actual coefficient of friction in nut-bolt assemblies with different commercial lubricants.

As a real application, it has been used in an R&D study of different commercial brands of torque tools. This study allowed the contracting company to choose the best tool for their new production process and thus improve their productivity.

Ensa renews its CEFRI certification

Ensa successfully passed the renewal audit of the CEFRI certification .

CEFRI recognizes the ability of a company to implement and maintain a management system that guarantees the protection of workers engaged in activities under ionizing radiation; an essential requirement to be able to intervene in French nuclear power plants.

The auditing firm was favourable, highlighting as a strong point the involvement of Ensa in the monitoring of the management system of the radioprotection, as well as the effectiveness of internal communication within the organization. Based on this report, the CEFRI committee has been asked to renew the certification for three more years.
