Satisfactory participation of Ensa in Patram 2019

Maliaño, the 14th of August 2019.- For Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E its participation in the 19th edition of Patram 2019, the international symposium on packages for the transport of radioactive materials held in New Orleans, has been highly satisfactory.

The state company based in Maliaño had a good visibility thanks to its stand which has allowed more potential customers to know the ENUN technology that it has developed through the design, licensing, manufacturing and loading campaigns of these casks for the storage and transportation of spent fuel.

Alejandro Palacio and Guillermo Calleja gave two presentations in which they developed different aspects of the ENUN casks. On the one hand, Palacio explained Ensa’s role in the fuel transport tests implemented in the ENUN 32P with the Sandia National Labs in 2017 through his presentation “Logistics preparation for the Multi-Modal Surrogate Spent Nuclear Fuel Transportation Test using the ENUN 32P cask” and Calleja reviewed the origin of the ENUN, as well as its current status and situation with “ENUN Cask – A successful history”.

This fair has meant for Ensa an excellent chance to show its products, capabilities and services of spent fuel management to numerous customers and demonstrate that it is at the forefront of the technique in the world of casks.

Success of the second session of the “Final Design Review” for the welding of ports of the Vacuum Vessel of the ITER in Cadarache

Maliaño, the 9th of August 2019.- The presentation and defense of the second package of systems and procedures developed by Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M. E within the project of welding of sectors and ports of the vacuum chamber for the International Experimental Thermonuclear Reactor was celebrated successfully. On this occasion, the theme of the session was focused on the welding of “splice plates” of the ports of the fusion reactor .

The overall assessment was very favorable according to the Court’s evaluation, consisting of a multidisciplinary team of technical managers and experts from different areas of the ITER.

The third documentary package is being prepared and its delivery is scheduled for next September.

Ensa concludes successfully the electropolishing of a steam generator in France

Maliaño, 24th of July 2019.- Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E completed successfully the electropolishing of a new steam generator ND 1300 at the Framatome facilities in Saint Marcel, France.

This is the sixth steam generator that the state company places in Maliaño makes to the French company. The first one was carried out in 2017, five more during 2018 and with this one the current order is concluded. Ensa is already preparing to electropolish another 8 steam generators also for Framatome but this time at its facilities in Cantabria.

The electropolishing of the channel head is carried out at the end of its manufacture, before the hydraulic test and aims to soften the microstructural irregularities of the surface to avoid the fixation of radioactive contamination during the service life of the equipment allowing the reduction of the operational dose rate during the maintenance interventions.

The surface treatment consists on two phases: a mechanical polishing by grinding with 7 different grains and an electrochemical polishing with current in an acid medium. The works are completed with the performance of the required controls, during and at the end of the process: visual examinations, roughness measurement, take of surface replicates for its later visualization in a scanning electron microscopy, cleaning verification and control of foreign objects.

Ensa has done these works with its subsidiary Enwesa.

 

Ensa´s Metrology Laboratory offers new developments and services

Maliaño, 9 of July 2019. – Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E Metrology laboratory has expanded its portfolio of services so that, currently, it offers a new calibration service for accelerometers and ​vibrometers, both very demanded during industrial plants and wind farms maintenance.

These new services are included in the portfolio along with some other new calibration services for: explosimeters for hydrogen and explosive atmospheres, hot air welding stations used in SMD components, LASER displacement transducers with profibus communication, calibration of stroboscopes, calibration of scales for weighing trains, etc.

In addition, thanks to the development of the Metrology laboratory and the Automatic unit, it’s possible to test in ENSA pressure transducers with differential pressures and controlled temperature which allows to validate the characteristics and specifications indicated by the manufacturers.

Ensa and Shanghai Electric sign an agreement to enhance their collaboration in the Chinese nuclear market

Maliaño, July the 4th, 2019.- Equipos Nucleares SA, SME and the nuclear group of Shanghai Electric Corporation signed an agreement to continue and expand their collaboration in the Chinese nuclear market that includes the manufacture of main components for nuclear power plants and other equipment related to spent fuel and services in plant.

In recent months both companies have been working on the definition of a renewed collaboration agreement that was finally signed at the facilities that the state company has in Maliaño. In the coming months, both will work to materialize in contracts the efforts made to date.

Ensa was represented by a delegation led by its president, José David Gomila; its general director, Rafael Triviño; its director of Projects, Miguel Ángel Andérez; its director of Business Development, María Vega and its Commercial Nuclear director, José M. Zubimendi. For its part, the Chinese delegation was headed by the vice president of SEC, Lv Yachen; the president of SENPGC, Shao Jianming; and his Commercial sub-director, Zhou Jie.

Strengthen their collaboration

The signing of this agreement strengthens, even more, the collaboration that began in the nineties. Ensa and SENPGC give great importance to this agreement, since it establishes the lines of collaboration in a common benefit and that will open up possibilities for joint development in China to explore future projects.

During the meeting, a review of the international nuclear market was made and possible joint actions were identified in order to face the current scenario.

Already last april a delegation of Spanish public companies, led by Ensa and Enusa, made a visit to China to strengthen the already existing collaboration between these countries in nuclear matters.

SEC is a Chinese multinational that manufactures electrical and power generation equipment. It is the world’s largest manufacturer of steam turbines and is also dedicated to the design, manufacture and sale of products that include, among others, power generation, transmission and distribution equipment and transformers.

We participate in the 27th edition of Women in Nuclear Global in Madrid

Maliaño, June 26, 2019.- Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E participated in the 27th edition of Women in Nuclear Global held recently in Madrid; a forum for women professionals in the nuclear sector in which different nuclear issues related to innovation and technology were discussed, among others.

María Vega, director of Business Development of Ensa, spoke at Session 1: Long-term operation of NPP and sustainability with the presentation with the title: “Expansion of the storage capacity of spent fuel through dry storage systems ”

Ensa presented 4 posters: “Internal Segmentation Reactor”, carried out by Sofía Corino, Mario Pérez and Pablo Echaure together with Domingo García from GE Hitachi; “Vacuum Vessel Assembly Welding: Ending of Development Phase” by Sofía Corino, Luis A. Blanco and Óscar Arenal, “Nuclear Spent Fuel Management: Cask- Design, Licensing, Manufacturing and Loading” and “Design And Development Of Multiples Components For The Civil Nuclear Industry “, both designed by Elena Mayordomo, Lucía Bilbao, Beatriz Santamaría, Ignacio Ortiz and Tan Lin.

For the company this type of meetings ” are always positive to strengthen existing ties with professionals in the sector and encourage new alliances that can generate future business opportunities.”

Ensa received students of the Middle Grade of Welding of the IES Nª Señora de los Remedios de Guarnizo

Maliaño, June 19, 2019. – Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E received the visit of a group of students of the Middle Level Course of Welding and Boilermaking of the IES Nuestra Señora de los Remedios de Guarnizo.

The meeting began with a presentation on the activity of the company, as well as its capabilities, main products and services. During the meeting, the attendees showed special interest in the production and manufacturing processes used by Ensa and, particularly, by the increase in the degree of mechanization of these.

During the visit to the workshop and the laboratories that make up the Advanced Technology Center , the students made a large number of questions related to different aspects of welding and the state company based in Maliaño as a company “where can grow and develop professionally. “

Address new challenges and technological needs, objective of the ninth annual meeting between Ensa and UC

Engineering design, environment and waste management or Technology 4.0 are some of the issues addressed in the joint session between Ensa technicians and UC researchers

 Santander, June 12, 2019.- Exploring new collaboration opportunities in order to address different technological challenges and needs is the objective of the ninth annual meeting held this morning between the University of Cantabria and Equipos Nucleares, S.A., S.M.E. at the company’s facilities in Maliaño.

Each year a conference is organized with the participation of more than twenty researchers and technicians who highlight the potential areas of collaboration in different areas of knowledge, related to economic and business issues; design engineering; environment and waste management; projects with manufacturing; o Technology 4.0, among others.

Ensa’s Project director, Miguel Ángel Andérez, expressed his interest in “continuing to celebrate these joint days in which we intend to continue the collaborations that have been maintained over the years.” He also highlighted the importance of “making known the work that the company does to the university and what the university can contribute to the company.”

The rector of the UC, Angel Pazos Carro, described as “a privileged” the relationship between the UC and Ensa at the time of “exchange knowledge, develop applied projects, as well as to take advantage of the possibilities in both research and training.” For the rector, the meeting held today is on the way of “putting knowledge at the service of Ensa and at the same time, that Ensa can transmit its application needs to the university” and therefore, it is an “example of what that it has to be the transfer of knowledge technology between university and company”, he said.

For his part, the vice rector of Research and Knowledge Transfer, Javier Léon, pointed the close collaboration between UC and Ensa that serves to “put Ensa technicians in contact with UC researchers and meet their needs”.

Ensa, about to conclude the phase 1 of the ITER vacuum chamber assembly

Maliaño, 11st of June of 2019.- Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E is about to conclude the phase 1 of the assembly of the vacuum chamber of the ITER project with an advanced of 90% so in the coming months these works will be finalized.

The latest developments have been related to the automated machining of the housings of the joining pieces called “biscuit”, as well as to the subsequent manufacture, through a process of reverse engineering of these parts.

The tests, with satisfactory results, have taken place both in the scale model 1: 1 representative of a joint between sectors and in the model of the “upper” port structure. For the first case, a machining unit is used on rail and for the port, a robotic system that describes the trajectories of the tool. The additional technical difficulty is given by the total restriction of ITER Organization for the use of cutting fluids.

Ensa strengthens its robotic welding systems

Maliaño, 30th of Mayo, 2019.- Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E continues successfully executing robotic welds for the ITER project .

Recently they have been completed, thanks to the good performance of the Manufacturing area in the use of the systems developed in the Advanced Technology Center , the complex unions in several welding positions of components aimed at the manufacture of this project.

Robotic welding systems designed in the CTA, have achieved very satisfactory results, positioning the welding processes of the Cantabrian company as leaders in terms of quality and productivity.
