Ensa avanza en el proyecto MEACTOS, para mejorar la reducción de tensiones residuales

31 st, January 2020.- Ensa, Equipos Nucleares, S.A., S.M.E., a company located in Maliaño, is participating in the European project MEACTOS , a research programme in which 16 partners from 11 European Union member countries are working, including the Spanish company based in Cantabria. This project has received funding from the Euratom research and training programme 2014-2018 under grant agreement no. 755151.

MEACTOS aims to improve the reduction of residual stresses and the effect of “stress corrosion cracking” in steels, from the perspective of the micro-stresses and surface cracks induced by machining and treatments that can be given, superficially, to the parts to alleviate them or prevent their appearance.

Ensa is the supplier and manufacturer of the specimens necessary for the tests that study the effect of the surface finish conditions of the components on their resistance to “Environmentally-Assisted Cracking” processes. At the last meeting of the programme held in Holland, Ivan Kurt Ohm Novo, representing Ensa’s Metallurgical Research department, resolved doubts and technical questions that arose about the procedures followed to achieve the correct production of the test coupons. In addition to achieving the general goals when the MEACTOS project ends, Ensa also hopes to obtain information on the possible replacement of coolants and oils by refrigeration with CO2 cryogenic technology, as well as to acquire the necessary qualifications to carry out processes that have to do with the effect of inducing surface tension in machining.
