Ensa´s Metrology Laboratory offers new developments and services

Maliaño, 9 of July 2019. – Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E Metrology laboratory has expanded its portfolio of services so that, currently, it offers a new calibration service for accelerometers and ​vibrometers, both very demanded during industrial plants and wind farms maintenance.

These new services are included in the portfolio along with some other new calibration services for: explosimeters for hydrogen and explosive atmospheres, hot air welding stations used in SMD components, LASER displacement transducers with profibus communication, calibration of stroboscopes, calibration of scales for weighing trains, etc.

In addition, thanks to the development of the Metrology laboratory and the Automatic unit, it’s possible to test in ENSA pressure transducers with differential pressures and controlled temperature which allows to validate the characteristics and specifications indicated by the manufacturers.

Ensa participated in the third edition of the “Day of employment and inthership in business” celebrated by the science school of UC

Maliaño, May 15, 2019.- One year more, Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E participated with its subsidiary, Enwesa, in the third edition of  the “Day of Employment and Internship in Business” celebrated by the Science School of the Cantabrian University .

For the state company established in Maliaño, this type of meetings, whose objective is to provide students with employment opportunities and high quality professional development are important because it favors the direct approach with the talent of students with specific training in Science and can serve to satisfy some of their labor demands.

Satisfactory presentation of the systems and procedures developed by Ensa for the welding between sectors of the ITER vacuum chamber

Maliaño, April 26, 2019.- The presentation of the first package of systems and procedures developed by Equipos Nucleares S.A, S.M.E within the welding project of sectors and ports of the vacuum chamber for ITER was highly satisfactory.

Its preparation has been a considerable challenge in the recent months, but the state company based in Maliaño has received unanimous congratulations from the client, as well as the president of the court and its main components: TRO and FIDIC .

Three additional sessions are planned with the rest of the systems that will be developed during the next months.

Ensa participates in the construction of the most powerful neutron source in the world

The company will participate in the building of the world’s most powerful particle accelerator

Maliaño, April 24, 2019.- Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E has been successful bidder to the manufacture of 4 Monolith Port Blocks and the NNbar Tube by research center known as the European Spallation Neutron Source .

Each block of ports contains between 9 – 11 tubes to house the NBPI or neutron beam port insertions and to the NB PP or Plugs. The NNbar is the only tube that, in the beginning, will house the “NN-bar adapter”, formed by three neutron guide tubes. All of them will be part of the monolith vessel; one of the main systems of the target station.

This adjudication opens to Ensa the opportunity to work with this client for the first time and to participate in the construction of the most powerful neutron source in the world. The installation of ESS will serve to discover and to develop new materials that will have applications in numerous sectors: pharmacology, industrial manufacturing, aerospace, telecommunications, energy, transport and biotechnology.

Ensa participates in SOLECOM project to look for more efficient solutions in cask design of nuclear fuel through composite materials

Maliaño, April, 17, 2019.- Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E participates, within a consortium established by INGECID and the University of Cantabria Research organization; GITECO, in the SOLECOM project,  financed by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and European Fund for regional development , to look for new more efficient solutions  in cask design of nuclear fuel through composite materials.

The objective of the project is the development of a system for the storage of spent fuel from nuclear power plants. Overcome this challenge of designing and manufacturing metal casks, with several competitive advantages over other existing in the market, the next phase is to adapt the knowledge acquired to the design of a cask of ‘canister’ type concrete and apply it to both fuel storage of Spanish plants as well as any power plant that works with this system, which will provide the nuclear industry with a more efficient solution and improve the long-term storage security through Spanish technology.

Due to the diversity of spent nuclear fuel management strategies in the world, the concrete cask “canister” type are very demanded, why the importance of this new project of I+D+I to find a more efficient cask.

ENUSA and Ensa show their technological strengths in China

A delegation of ENUSA and Ensa headed by their respective presidents, José Vicente Berlanga and David Gomila, with members of their management teams, Roberto González Villegas and Rafael Triviño have visited China to hold meetings at the highest level with the Chinese nuclear sector.

It is necessary to highlight the importance of the Chinese nuclear program, with five new reactors entering into operation in 2019, after the eight that were launched in 2018, with 10 new reactors under construction at present, and with the recent authorization of the construction of four new reactors. All this implies new needs in relation to fuel production, which will probably require new factories for the CNNC group and the CGN group.

The big Chinese nuclear companies see the Spanish homonyms ENUSA and Ensa, as preferential partners in their development activities in the Chinese nuclear program and in the exit to the outside of these companies.

The Spanish leaders were received by the vice-president of the CGN and a member of the Chinese government, who confirmed the Group’s interest in strengthening the collaboration begun with Spanish public nuclear companies years ago in the spent fuel management areas, service provision, development of equipment and the expansion to the design and manufacture of fuel, dismantling and participation in R + D + i activities. The CGN Group is the largest nuclear operator in China and the third worldwide.

The CGN group is interested in the fact that ENUSA can help with the implementation of its expected fuel factory, for which they have already requested construction authorization at the Yiangjian site.

Therefore important expectations for the Spanish nuclear industry are opened not only in the fuel cycle or in the development of technology, but also in the process of digitalization initiated by the Chinese nuclear sector, and in which Spain is a benchmark, as a result of the intense work begun more than a decade ago by the Spanish nuclear industry in the digitalization of its processes to improve the quality and safety of its products. In this way, the Chinese nuclear industry tries to match other industrial sectors in its country, which have already made important advances in this area.

During this visit they visited several sites where Chinese companies have their activity.

ENUSA has had the opportunity to visit the CNNC group factory in Yibin, operated by the CJNF company of the CNNC group. ENUSA has been collaborating with this company for several years, a collaboration that has resulted in the supply of several production quality control equipment’s, and with whom there are opportunities to extend this collaboration to improve its facilities in the near future through the support in the layout of their new factory in the Yibin area.

During their stay in the Asian country, both companies have held meetings with the SNPEC engineering of the Chinese SPIC nuclear group, in charge of the execution and operation of the AP-1000 design reactors located in Sanmen and Haiyang, which has put in value the great work done by Ensa in the supply of steam generators for Sanmen and they  have manifested their firm intention to collaborate in the future with both Spanish public companies.

For its part, Ensa visited the Sanmen site, the first Ap-1000 design center that has entered into operation. During the visit, the President of the Operadora, Mr. Miao Yaming, expressed his gratitude to Ensa for the services provided by the Spanish public company with the supply of steam generators. Mr. Miao also expressed his desire to extend this collaboration to the supply of equipment for phases 2 and 3 of the Sanmen project.

On the other hand, ENUSA has taken advantage of the opportunity to extend its representation agreement with its agent in China, NUTECH, until 2023, responsible for identifying the needs of the Chinese nuclear industry, and has facilitated these meetings with the Chinese nuclear industry that translate into important commercial expectations for the Spanish company. An agreement that has been signed following the strict rules of Compliance of the public company, which ensures the transparency and legal security of commercial transactions with third countries.

The Advanced Technology Center of Ensa cooperate with Navantia improving the developments in the design and production of a component for a new submarine

Maliaño, March 5st, 2019. – The Advanced Technology Center of Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E  , with other technologies centers as CTC, Eurocontrol and CADE, made an advisory and consulting work  to Navantia shipyard in the design and manufacturing review of one of the integrating components of the new S-80 submarines.

Through different analysis and calculations, in addition to ensuring compliance with the ASME standard, it was verified that these components of the submarine were safe for installation.

Ensa participated in the Nordic Nuclear Forum 2019

Maliaño, February 19th 2019.- Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E participated in the Nordic Nuclear Forum 2019 in Hensilki, Finlandia. Leandro Sánchez from the Field Services, Decommissioning and Radioactive Waste Area and Manuel Fajardo from the Marketing and Sales department, went to event on the part of the company.

During the meeting, several presentations were given by different companies and government representatives of European countries linked with the nuclear sector.

The state company located in Maliaño, had the opportunity to show their products and capacities in this scenery focusing on the exchange of information about actual topics of life cicle of nuclear energy.

Ensa finished successfully the test developed with the mockup of its ENUN 32P cask by the German Institute B.A.M

Maliaño, February 7th 2019. – Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E has finished successfully all the activities in the 1/3 mockup of its ENUN 32P cask at the facilities of the German Institute B.A.M with the American laboratories of SANDIA and PNNL.

Two drop tests were performed from 30 cm height, in horizontal position with different orientations of its basket, on non-deformable surface that show the postulated scenarios  according to normal conditions of transport, at the regulation transport of radioactive material.

The cask was instrumented with 51 accelerometers located in the body of the cask, in the basket, at 11 of the fuel elements and also at the contact surface in the floor. SANDIA laboratories are in charge of the post-processing of the results, and PNNL of the modelling of the system through two elements finite codes.

The project is part of a series of tests and simulations that the state company located in Maliaño, SANDIA and PNNL have been carrying out for many years, to study in detail the behavior of spent fuel assemblies during postulated mechanical processes in the transport regulation of radioactive material for standard conditions and hypothetical accident conditions.

Ensa’s new success in ITER robot welding

Maliaño, November 16, 2018 – Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E continues with success the execution of welds of components destined to the ITER project .

 

The robotic TIG welding system developed in the Advanced Technology Centre by the Automatic Unit with the Welding Development Unit, in collaboration with the personnel of the Production Welding Unit, has made possible to complete the vertical upward welds on both sides of one of the ITER sector components assigned to the Cantabrian company, obtaining magnificent results in the quality and productivity of the process in the 3 welded components.
