Environmental Responsibility

At a time when society is more aware than ever of the need to preserve our natural resources, Ensa is renewing its commitment to protecting the environment and our surroundings by incorporating into strategic planning specific action plans on areas such as energy transition, the circular economy and the protection of biodiversity.

Contributing to the fight against climate change is one of the guiding principles of our actions. Not only do our products and services help to generate carbon-free energy, but we also develop our activities and processes under the commitment to reduce energy consumption, promote the use of renewable energies and move towards a low-carbon energy model, which is manifested in the calculation and registration of the carbon footprint with the Ministry of Ecological Transition with the aim of reducing it each year.

Our plant is located in an environment of great natural value in the south of Santander Bay, in the estuary of the Ría del Carmen, in an area classified as an Important Bird Conservation Area (IBA). South of our facilities are the Marismas Blancas, catalogued as an ornithological reserve by SEO/BirdLife. Therefore, our commitment to the environment is even greater and constant.

We have our own experts and an environmental management system based on the ISO 14001:2015 standard and on strict compliance with local, national and European environmental legislation and regulations. We also promote knowledge about the environment, stimulating the environmental awareness of all our staff through training and motivating the performance of our activities in an environmentally responsible manner.

We operate responsibly and with transparency, managing waste and emissions effectively and making responsible use of energy, water and raw materials.

In line with our environmental policy, we make the following specific actions:

  • Clean point

We have a clean point with an area of 450 m2 equipped with safety areas to storage flammable and hazardous waste, as well as an area for storage and removal of non-hazardous and recyclable waste.

  • System of selective collection of all waste

We sort waste at its origin. For this reason we have implemented a system of selective collection of all waste produced in our production halls. We promote proper waste sorting and recycling o their valuation.

  • Training programs

We develop training programs for new employees and staff already working at the company to ensure their continuing suitability and competence in environmental matters.

  • Awareness campaigns

We carry out regular awareness campaigns in order to promote environmental awareness among our staff and subcontractors and visitors to our facilities.

  • Monitor wastewater

We periodically monitor wastewater and air emissions to ensure compliance with the legal requirements applicable to us.

  • Inspections and internal audits

We perform periodic inspections and internal audits to monitor compliance with environmental requirements and identify improvement actions.

  • Monitor

We monitor the environmental aspects of our activities by the surveillance and periodic reporting of the environmental indicator.

HEALTH, SAFETY, ENVIRONMENTAL AND ENERGY POLICY

ENSA is firmly committed to meeting applicable legal requirements, as well as other voluntary requirements, pertaining to health and safety at the workplace, environmental protection, energy efficiency and electricity use and consumption.

We undertake to encourage health and safety, not only by removing hazards and reducing risks to prevent harm and health hazards at the workplace, but also by taking steps to encourage health that lead to a healthier and more motivated staff, who are better equipped to maintain their wellbeing and quality of life.

Improving our organisation’s energy performance is one of our main goals, and we are also committed to protecting the environment around our facilities, as well as ecosystems and biodiversity, and to preventing contamination, always ensuring safe and healthy workplace conditions.

We maintain our commitment to consultations with and active participation by our workers and their representatives, ensuring that information is available, guaranteeing accessible and transparent communication channels and encouraging knowledge to promote staff’s engagement with the organisation’s culture.

We keep these principles in mind when designing our facilities, processes and equipment, considering the opportunities to improve energy efficiency and mitigate climate-related threats, in line with our goal to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

We are also committed to observing these principles in the supply chain, introducing sustainability and energy efficiency criteria in the procurement of products and services, and promoting our sustainability and safety culture among our collaborators.

ENSA undertakes to provide the necessary resources to achieve the organisation’s goals in terms of energy and environmental performance and of health and safety, in compliance with the principles of this policy.

ENSA also declares its support for the Agenda 2030, establishing specific and measurable commitments that promote corporate action in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement.

Policy approved in the Management Committee held on September 23rd, 2024.
