Ensa supplied Almaraz NPP with a long pendular tool

Maliaño, January 21st, 2019.- Equipos Nucleares SA, SME delivered the long pendular spent fuel handling tool , successfully completing the assembly at the Almaraz NPP in Cáceres and the Site Acceptance Test consisting of handling with a dummy element in the spent fuel pool of Unit I of said plant.

This tool has been designed for handling fuel elements located in the spent fuel pool, in areas inaccessible to other tools existing to date in the plant. This special lifting device is part of the family of pendular tools in which Ensa is specialized. Its design is patented since 2014 and has been supplied to plants such as José Cabrera NPP , Almaraz NPP I and II, Ascó NPP I and II and Yonggwang NPP III and IV.

The pendular tool incorporates technological advances that optimize the balancing of the tool during the grip of the fuel element, providing a fast and reliable response.

Ensa successfully passes the renewal audit of the occupational health and safety management certificate OHSAS 18001: 2007

Maliaño, January the 10th, 2019. – Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E has successfully passed the last audit carried out by Lloyd’s Register, renewing its occupational health and safety management certificate OHSAS 18001:2007. The document certifies the commitment of the Cantabrian company to the safety and health of all those people, both the organization´s workers and its collaborating companies and customers, which contribute to making Ensa a leading company in its sector.

The company based in Maliaño maintains a health and safety management system in accordance with the OHSAS 18001: 2007 standard certified by Lloyd’s Register since 2009 and has recently been renewed for another 3 years.

This audit has highlighted the involvement of company’s management team in all aspects related to prevention, leading the implementation of actions. The organization has established the bases for continuous improvement and minimization of risks, integrating the preventive culture at all levels of the company. The organization guarantees by means of the different processes, procedures and systems a focus towards compliance with the legal aspects related to security, as well as the requirements of customers.

Due to its commitment with Safety, Health and Continuous Improvement, Ensa marks the next challenge in the adaptation of its safety and health management system to the new ISO 45001: 2018 standard.

Ensa successfully passes the renewal audit of the environmental management certificate UNE-EN ISO 14001:2015

Maliaño, December 28, 2018 – Equipos Nucleares S.A. S.M.E. has successfully passed the last audit carried out by AENOR with which it renews its environmental management certificate UNE-EN ISO 14001:2015; document that revalidates the commitment of the Cantabrian company with the protection of the special environment in which are located their facilities in the coastal area framed in the Bay of Santander, and next to the Ornithological Reserve of the White Marshes.

Ensa maintains an environmental management system in accordance with the UNE-EN ISO 14001 standard certified by AENOR since 2004, and last year it made the transition to the new ISO 14001:2015 standard: it has recently been renewed for another 3 years.

The audit highlight the efforts made in terms of communication, awareness and environmental training, as well as the social actions carried out in accordance with the improvement plan for the promotion of circular economy with which it is sought a second life for discarded materials and equipment, doing donations of retired IT equipment and delivering valuable waste to social causes or organizations that promote social integration.

The Board of Directors of Amica thank Ensa for more than 20 years of collaboration

Maliaño, December 27, 2018.- The Board of Directors of Amica recognized Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E , its more than 20 years of collaboration with this  association, which provides employment opportunities for people with disabilities, in an event in which distinguished the work of other committed entities that from different areas collaborate in the projects set up by Amica so that the group they represent can continue achieving goals and giving its employees the opportunity to develop a personal project.

Ensa successfully loads ENUN 32P casks in Almaraz and Trillo NPPs

Maliaño, 21st of december 2018. – Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E successfully completed the loading of its first two ENUN 32P casks at the Almaraz and Trillo NPPs.

The ENUN 32P cask designed and manufactured by the Cantabrian company, for the transport and storage of spent fuel and licensed by the CSN, were stored in the Individualized Temporary Storage Facility in the two plants, being the first of a series of casks that Ensa will supply to the Spanish market.

With the loading of these casks carried out in collaboration with Enwesa Operaciones SA, SME, a subsidiary of Ensa, the objective of offering a new cask with new features and capabilities to the national and international market that make the ENUN 32P an outstanding product, attractive and competitive.

Ensa collaborates with the University of Cantabria and the CSIC in a project on non-destructive ultrasonic testing techniques

Maliaño, December 17th, 2018 – Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E collaborated with the University of Cantabria and the Higher Council for Scientific Research in a project related to the techniques of non-destructive testing by ultrasound whose objective was that the Cantabrian company improve its training in two new generation techniques Phased Array and TOFD.

The execution of this project is translated in terms of innovation for Ensa, due to the fact that the advanced ultrasound tests can contribute to guarantee the quality of the welds in the welding station itself.

This collaboration has served to launch a new inspection technology project aimed at robotizing tests for the ITER project with which the Cantabrian company and the UC will continue working together.

The project was financed by the Ministry of Innovation, Industry, Tourism and Trade of the Government of Cantabria through the European Regional Development Fund .

Ensa participated in the Heavy Fabrication Summit (HFS2018) in Finland

Maliaño, December 12th, 2018-. Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E participated in the Heavy Manufacturing Summit held at the Pemamek headquarters in Loimaa, Finland whose main objective was to make known the latest welding trends to increase quality, productivity and efficiency in heavy manufacturing.

The event was attended by over a hundred participants from companies around the world who came together to learn about the latest trends in heavy welding , recent innovations in this field and ways to increase production capacity. In addition, there were live demonstrations of six different automated PEMA welding and production solutions. Domingo Lima, head of the Center for Advanced Technology represented the Cantabrian company there.

Ensa develops a mechanized welding machine for circular joints in ITER sectors

Maliaño, December 5, 2018 – The Automatic unit belonging to the Advanced Technology Centre together with the Welding Development of Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E have developed a mechanized welding machine for the accomplishment of the circular joints of the sector PS1 of ITER .

This machine has the particularity of having a rotary joint that allows continuous welding.

Ensa collaborates again with SANDIA and PNNL (USA ) and BAM (Germany) laboratories

Maliaño, December 3, 2018 – Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E has reached a new agreement with the American research laboratories of SANDIA and PNNL – with whom already collaborated in a project to measure vibrations during the transport of its ENUN 32P cask in 2017 – by which it will make available to SANDIA the 1/3 scale model of the cask, so that a series of new tests can be carried out in the facilities of the BAM research Centre, in Berlin . Ensa’s technicians will support SANDIA, PNNL and BAM through the tests that will be carried out in this Centre.

The foreseen tests are framed in the verification of the behaviour of the cask and the spent fuel  for compliance with the safety requirements indicated in the Normal Conditions of Transport, which are required in the licensing processes of casks for the Transport mode, according to the current IAEA regulations .

As indicated above, the scale model to be used was built in Ensa for the tests performed under Normal Transport Conditions and Hypothetical Accident Conditions, carried out at the SANDIA facilities , to validate the design of the ENUN 32P cask and the impact limiters of all the casks of the ENUN family, checking the accelerations suffered by the cask, while in this new project the accelerations suffered by the fuel will be checked in greater detail.

Once the tests are completed, all the equipment will return to Ensa while SANDIA and PNNL will be in charge of post-processing and analysing the results obtained. This new collaboration confirms the preparation of Ensa’s technological equipment and its positioning in the research of more advanced products.
