Maliaño, June the 20th 2019.- Equipos Nucleares S.A., S.M.E shipped a replacement reactor pressure vessel head to Shearon Harris nuclear power plant in North Carolina in the United States, owned by Duke Energy.
The state company based in Maliaño has worked in the manufacture of this great component for the last three years and it has to be highlighted the excellent development of the work carried out by Ensa / Framatome / Duke / Progress project team during the whole process.
The customer, Duke Energy, according to their demanding manufacturing standards, has described the machining, welding and all manufacturing results as «excellent». «Ensa has earned our trust for its dedicated and effective leadership. In fact, it has been excellent and has performed wonderfully well. That’s why Duke is very grateful for the quality of the product received”, said responsibles of the American company.
For its part, Framatome showed «the flexibility and responsiveness of Ensa´s staff» to recognize that when they have faced a difficult task «its specialists worked tirelessly until the work was done correctly, efficiently, saving a lot of time and effort».
The piece was shipped from the facilities that Ensa has in the Ria de Boo, to Wilmington in North Carolina and from there, by road, it will reach the plant in the first half of July.
Ensa has extensive experience in the design and manufacture of this type of large components because since 1982 it has supplied a total of 19 vessel covers to all the Spanish plants and also to others in the United States, Argentina, Switzerland and Slovenia. The company works using different technologies and according to different standards and codes to adapt to the demands of its customers. Thus, its RPV head are manufactured under different codes accepted by nuclear designers around the world.
